The Rollercoaster of Emotions and Fears

This week marks my last week at my current job.

Who knew that I grow to love my job and move up with in the company. At 24 not many people have a long term job as well as three different positions within that company. It is also bittersweet time for me because this marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

I am a roller coaster of emotions right now. Petrified to go into the unknown aspects of this move. As much as I can read blogs and email and talk to people who have been to the North. I have never left home longer than two years of university and that was in the same province!

I am excited for the experiences that I know will come with this adventure. I am excited to learn more about my own country and some of the peoples who were here first. I am so full of emotions I am sure I will be crying all week long and into the next .

I am not nervous about the flight much ... mainly worried about luggage getting to were it should be and all ending up in Kimmirut with me. I am worried about my cat and her travel I am sure though my vet will ease those fears this week when we go to visit him.

There are so many times when I think to myself "What in the heck am I doing?" I am excited for me as are alot of my friends and family. I am sure once I am in Kimmirut things will be ok it is just the getting there part that is hard.

I wonder if I can put a blanket apology out to all the people traveling from Fredericton to Ottawa with me that I will be the crying sniffling girl on the plane  and that I am sorry.

Oh well maybe by the 15th my tear ducts will have dried up ..... one can hope!

Leaving on A Jet plane ...with a Pink Cat Carrier

So my itinerary is confirmed the recruiting office sent it off to me yesterday and I confirmed with them today. I was a bit worried about bringing my cat Paislie in the cabin with me as I know I will be taking a smaller plane into Kimmirut but they confirmed everything and she is all set too!

The itinerary is a bit hectic leaving Fredericton at 6am .... ouch I don't like early mornings and I will have to leave St.Stephen probably around 4am to get there! The great thing is it is a short flight to Ottawa with a layover then off to Iqaluit a short layover in Iqaluit then on to Kimmirut. Paislie is confirmed for everything the whole way.

This lead to a impromptu race to Wal Mart for a soft cat carrier! My younger sister and I went and hummed and hahhhed over a few and finally decided on this pink flowered cat carrier...

So my cat is going to be a styling flying kitty!

Today was also another day of checking things off my To Do list. I had to talk to Service New Brunswick about my Medicare card since they have not mailed me a new one yet and stopped into the Eye Dr about more contacts.

I even was able to get everything switched at the bank. So today I felt like I accomplished quite a bit. I was even able to get some sizes for totes so I can ship some items to Kimmirut!

Since I am off work tomorrow I think I am going to decide what I am taking with me and hopefully get some stuff sorted out. I need to figure out my final baggage allowance and decide how many additional bags I am going to take with me on the airline.

The Never Ending To Do......

The list of things to do seems to never end and the ambition to do them seems to go *poof* just as easily.

I decided that I was going to be productive and create a list of all the things I had to get done in the next few weeks. Then I looked at my schedual for work , WOW..... I am on days tommrow and Sat and Sunday off Weds and Thurs so I am able to get a few things done, which is great because they are the important things that need to be done during working hours like go to the bank and get that all figured out.

I have to stop into the eye doctor as well to see about getting more contacts . I think I am going to be spending my days off running around like a chicken with my head cut off for the next few weeks.

I am very glad that I am done on May 4th because then I get a week where the day to day stress of work won't be making me feel blah. I noticed that alot of the Northern bloggers (past and present) got to share this experince, the stress of figuring out what to bring , what not to bring and such with a partner. I am glad that I will get to show a different perspecitive.

Slowly but surely I am gonna get better at this blogging thing!

It is Starting to Hit Me....

So today I had the OMG I am moving to Nunavut in 3 weeks oh holy shit moment!

I handed in my resignation for my current job. It was a very nervwrecking experience to hand that piece of paper to my manager. That small 8 1/2 x11 piece of white printer paper held one of my biggest decisions of my life. I have been at my current job for 5 years and I love it and love the people but I need to explore more!

So this sets in the official count down...

Oh boy

Where it all began......

How it all got started.....

Last August my grandmother and I were having a conversation about life.  I had almost put in 4 years at my current job as a trainer in a local call center. She suggested applying for jobs out in western Canada. My response was a sarcastic "Well why don't I move to Nunavut" and the idea was formed!

I spent a few days scouring the Internet for jobs applying for a few here and there in the North. while I was searching I came across a blog that mentioned the Northwest company. It was a guys account of his time in Nunavut. So I thought what the heck and googled the company's website they were accepting applications so I submitted mine.

The next day while driving to work I got a call from them inviting me to an information session in Moncton. They told me a bit about the company and advised that after the session they would conduct interviews if I was still interested.

I had to wait until the 23rd of September for the session , which was ok gave me lots of time to research the company as well as living in the North.  The day of the session I took my grandmother as my mom had to work. We got to have a good 2-3 hour session , where they told the group of us ( there were about 8 of us all together) After learning more about the company, I was quite intrigued to say the least.

I decided to continue on with the process and interview. The recruiting manager advised me at the end of my interview that once they had my references checked they would let me. Well then came the weeks of waiting... checking with my references to see if they had spoken to them and such.

It was the Monday after Thanksgiving that I heard back , they were moving forward with my file but it could take a bit as they match the person with the community and the positon.

Move forward 7 months....

I had emailed the recruiting manager a few times just a quick check that nothing had opened up. April 1st I was driving to work and got the call. They were offering me a position as a supervisor, administration at the Northern store in Kimmirut, Nunavut. I had until that Thursday to accept or deny the position.

After talking to my family and the district manager for Kimmirut and the store manager I decided to accept the position... Mind you I spend a few days in tears over a bit of fear....

This leads me to my adventures in Nunavut!
